I think the question is about the process you would go through to find out about a company's competitors - in other words - how resourceful you are to find the information and then what your process for analysing that information is to compare the competitor's strengths with said company.

Its a litte difficult to give you advice out of context - knowing the company and job that you are interviewing for might give some clues, or the competencies that they are looking for.
