Hay Fever and the Job of your Dreams

Hello [NAME]

Many of you, like me, will now be suffering from hay fever. If you don't, it is easy to spot those people that do - constantly sneezing, rubbing their eyes which now look red and bloodshot and they leave a trail of tissues wherever they go.

It is at this time of year though, when many companies are getting to the final stages of their recruitment drive have only a few jobs left before the next recruitment push in the Autumn. The problem is you only want to go to an interview if you look and feel your best and at this time of year, if you are a hay fever sufferer, it's difficult. So what can you do?

The obvious thing is to make sure you take your medication up to and including the day of the interview. Tell the interviewers when you arrive that you are taking medication for hay fever - especially if a side effect is that the medication makes you feel drowsy. Ensure that you take regular breaks in the fresh air and drink plenty of water - coffee or tea will only make you feel worse.

Take plenty of tissues with you and keep them in a pocket or bag - make sure you don't leave a trail behind you - you don't want to leave soggy tissues as a lasting memory.

The good thing is that most offices are air conditioned so it is likely that you will sneeze less inside. Many of us suffer from hay fever it is likely that some of the assessors will be showing symptoms too so you will not be alone.

Get an early night before the interview and arrive at your destination early so that you can acclimatise to your new surroundings. Be prepared and think positive - you are unlikely to be the only one sneezing - but make you are the best at handling the situation.
