Succeeding at Interview

Hello [NAME]

You would be amazed by how many candidates weaken their answers by talking about what "we" did. Talking about what you and your colleague have done, diminishes the impact of your answer. The only exception to this rule is if you are answering a question on teamwork - but even then be sure to talk about your suggestions and views in the first person.

The following tip is taken from our Succeeding at Interview cards. Each suit covers a different part of interview preparation: preparing mentally, body language, physical preparation and managing the interview.

Speak for Yourself

Always speak in the first person (say "I" not "we"). Your interviewer will want to know what you did, not what you and your friend did.

If you use "we" it begs the question - who was responsible for the result - you or your friend.
Answer the following question and practice speaking in the first person.
"Tell me about a time when you had to make an important decision?"

Our cards are now only £3.00 - so to buy your pack simply click here
