Questions at Interview

Questions at Interview

What will I be asked?

We were asked recently what type of questions to expect at interview. This is a pretty broad subject but here is some advice to help you prepare for a competency based interview.

When attending a competency based interview, your interviewer will ask questions based on the competencies required in the person they hire. So, first step, know the competencies. The questions asked will normally take the same format:

Give me an example of
What happened?
What did you do?
What was the outcome?

The format is known as S.T.A.R or situation, task, action, result and as long as you remember this it will give you a good guide to preparing your answers.

So a typical question on Teamwork (competency) might be:
Tell me about a time when you worked in a team?
What did the team need to achieve?
What was your role in the team?
What was the result?
