How do you prepare for a Meeting with a Recruitment Agent? |
|
Recruitment agencies play an important role in supplying staff to employers. Whether it be for a temporary position or the job of your dreams: all of us are likely to meet with an agent at some point.
Many graduates are unsure about how to treat this meeting: it's not like going for a 'normal' interview as you will not be employed by the agency. You may feel that you have gone a bit 'over the top' if you dress in a suit for a meeting that you feel is likely to be relatively informal.
The role of the agency is to 'sell' your skills and abilities to an employer. This may be for a few weeks or for a permanent role. The agency will need to understand exactly what you can do and exactly what you are looking for in order to get the right fit. You also want to make a good impression as your contact will be describing you to future employers.
So wear the suit: it's better to go for the overdressed look rather than underdressed. Take along copies of your degree or any other qualifications. Also take along another copy of your CV – it is likely that you have already sent one electronically but it is good to have one to hand so that you can talk fluently and explain to your agency the best way to market your skills and abilities. Take along a pad and pen so you can make notes about opportunities that may be available.
Don't forget to shake their hand on meeting and leaving and ask when you might hear. Take their business card and keep it safe. If you don't hear within one week give your contact a call to show that you are ready and keen to start work. Agree with your contact at the agency how you will keep in contact going forward.
