Many people think that you can’t prepare for interviews – 'its down to the luck on the day'.
Well that just isn’t the case.  Doing your homework on the company and practicing your interview technique will give you a head start on everyone else.

The first thing to do is find out about the type of interview you will be having.  There are three different types of interview:

  • Technical interview:- fact based questions to test your knowledge.
  • Competency Based/Structured interivews:- questions based on the skills or competencies required in the job.  The interviewer will ask you for examples from your history to show how you demonstrated a skill in the past. (See our competency based interview video guide)
  • Biographical interview:- questions from your CV about your history.
Competency based is the style that is used most often by organisations so it is very likely that you will encounter this style of interview.
