How to Complete an Effective Psychometric Test PDF Print E-mail
There are two types of psychometric test: an ability or a personality test. The ability assesses your abilities or aptitude and a personality tests how you behave in situations or how you prefer to work.

Ability Tests

  • If you become more familiar with ability tests and the type of questions you are asked, it has been shown that scores do improve.
  • There are a number of ability - but you are most likely to encounter a verbal,  a numerical or a diagrammatical reasoning test.  If you know in which you are weaker – practice.
  • Tests will normally give an element of preparation time and give sample questions so that you become familiar with what is being asked.
  • As a rule of thumb: you need to complete 70 – 80% of the answers and get at least two thirds of those answered correct.

Personality Tests

  • Personality tests do not have a right or wrong answer – so just answer honestly.
  • The test is looking to find out more about the style in which you like to work – it looks for characteristics.
  • Don’t try to make out that you have a different personality because you think it is what the company is looking for: the answers are inter-linked so any kind of skew in the results will indicate that you have been lying – and there is nothing worse than this characteristic to an employer.
  • Be honest, answer quickly and intuitively.
