Success:

Well done: you are through to the next round. You need to find out what you might be asked to do next and when.  You will need to continue to prepare – preparation is the key to success. Continue to read the company website and pick up on news stories: the more you are informed the more impressive you will be. Think back to the interview and really consider what you did well and what you could do differently. You obviously did most things right but there is always an opportunity to improve. If you are offered the job after the first interview and you want to accept: make sure you understand the terms and conditions of the offer.  Nothing is binding until you have signed and returned the contract but definitely don’t accept the job if you are unsure or have any questions at all.  Ask them now – not later. After you have accepted the job you will need to agree a start date.  Make sure you keep to it and send all your company documentation back signed.

Failure

Bury your disappointment and go over in your head what went wrong.  It is a good idea to ring the company for feedback so you can get some pointers for next time. Consider whether you were right for the job – if so work on the areas that you could do differently. Never believe that there was nothing you could do differently – there is always room for improvement If you were late make sure you don’t place yourself in situations where this happens again. If you were asked a question you could not answer and you froze on the spot: you need to practice answering such questions with friends or family so that you are able to handle this type of situation.
