1st Step Poll Findings The poll running on www.1st-step.co.uk has been asking graduates what is ‘The most daunting part of getting a job’. The poll has now gathered over 200 votes and the findings are interesting.
The results show that the most feared part of getting a job is the assessment centre - 24% of voters opting for this choice, whilst nearly 22% chose the interview. This may be because both the interview and assessment centre are the most frequently used selection tools by organisations – both big and small. The good news is that there are lots of ways candidates can prepare for these events to alleviate any fears and ensure that they do the best that they can on the day. It was pleasing to see that facing an Assessor was not too daunting at 9.3%. Assessors are an important part of the assessment process and are likely to be skilled at making candidates feel at ease. The role of the Assessor is to identify candidates that meet the requirements of the organisation – the better you perform – the happier they should be. Surprisingly, the least daunting part of the selection process was the psychometric test –with only 8.3% selecting this option. This may well be because graduates are becoming more familiar with being tested in this manner and so this is not as formidable as we had envisaged. It is also good news, as The Association of Graduate Recruiters' summer graduate recruitment survey found that employers place "considerable confidence" in psychometric testing, with 92% considering it a useful or very useful aid to the recruitment process. Thank you to all who completed the poll – the findings have been very interesting. |
